Are you struggling to reach your training goals? Have you been pushing yourself hard with no results to show for it?
It's very common for anyone in training for marathons or even just for their own enjoyment to reach a plateau where you don't make any progress for a while and no matter what you do, you can't seem to get things moving again.
I've hit a few of these roadblocks on my training journey to taking part in the New York half iron man in September and I want to share with you some of the ways I've overcome these roadblocks and got my progress back on track by working smarter during training!
Track Progress And Adjust Your Regimen
For those training for running events, the path to progress is paved with persistence and smart adjustments. It's important to keep track of your progress and be willing to make changes to your routine in order to continue seeing results.
The key to working smarter during training is taking the time to evaluate which exercises and practices are giving you the most benefit and focusing your energy on those areas. By keeping an eye on your progress and making adjustments with a strategic mindset, you can set yourself up for success and achieve your goals in the world of running events.
Break Down Bigger Goals
I firmly believe that breaking down larger goals into smaller and more manageable ones is the key to working smarter during training.
A common mistake many individuals make is trying to tackle everything at once, leading to burnout, frustration, and sometimes giving up altogether.
However, by taking the time to break down larger goals into smaller and achievable steps, you can build momentum and make steady progress toward your ultimate vision.
Not only does this approach help you stay focused on the most critical tasks, but it also provides a sense of accomplishment upon completion of each smaller goal, ultimately propelling you further toward the finish line.
The most successful people I know understand that it's not about how much you do, but rather how well you do it. By working smarter, not harder, you can achieve your goals more efficiently and effectively, leading to a more fulfilling and rewarding journey.
Prioritize Recovery
As athletes and fitness enthusiasts, we often get caught up in the idea of pushing ourselves to the limit and going all out during our workouts.
However, in our eagerness to achieve our fitness goals, we sometimes forget the importance of prioritizing recovery to avoid injury and maintain our ability to keep training.
Working smarter during training means recognizing that our bodies need time to rest and recover in order to fully benefit from our workouts. This means incorporating proper rest days, prioritizing sleep, and including stretching into our routines or maintaining it as good practice.
By placing an emphasis on recovery, we can avoid setbacks and continue to pursue our fitness goals in a safe and sustainable way.
Maintain Motivation With Downtime
While it may seem counterintuitive, taking strategic breaks and resting your mind and body can actually increase your productivity and effectiveness when training.
It's important to find a balance between pushing yourself to the limit and allowing yourself time to recover. By incorporating downtime and rest time into your training regimen, you'll not only maintain motivation but also optimize your performance and achieve your desired results faster.
During your rest time, it's also important to take your mind off training while you relax with friends and family in order to clear your mind and truly relax so you're fully rested for your next session.
Get Help From A Personal Trainer
Sometimes it can be a little daunting to ask for help with a regimen that's so close to your heart and that you've been trying to perfect for a while.
However, asking a personal trainer or coach for some help to optimize your training schedule could be the solution to the plateaued progress you need!
With their wealth of knowledge, a personal trainer can help you identify and understand your unique strengths and weaknesses, and tailor a training plan that maximizes your efforts and moves you closer to your goals.
Through the guidance of a personal trainer, you’ll learn how to train smart by optimizing your individual abilities and focusing your efforts to achieve optimal results.
